First Letter from the MTC

First Day at MTC
January 25, 2012

To My Family -

So, I have made it through my first day at the MTC and am definitely ready for bed.  Things are going well and so fast that you don't really have time to think about anything else.  It is an information overload with all of the rules and regulations they are throwing at you.

My companion's name is Sister Hannah Cole.  She is from North Salt Lake, went to Woods Cross for high school and has gone to BYU for the past 2 years.  The District I am includes another set of sisters going to Roseville, CA, one set of elders there too and 2 sets of Elders to Dallas with me and Sister Cole.

I saw Allison tonight at dinner and she actually lives a couple of doors down the hall from me.  Apparently she had been so excited to see me today and her companion said Ali kept saying so in her little high pitched voice she does when she is excited.

Tonight we had a group teaching experience.  A set of trained missionaries would come into the room with an investigator (they all seemed legit investigators - no just actors or members pretending).  The missionaries would start up a conversations then leave the group of 30 new people to keep answering questions.  It was pretty crazy, but it got better by our last investigator.

Thank you all for everything you have done for me the last little while.  I LOVE YOU ALL!!  Everything is going okay for me and I am excited to be here.

Loves-

Goodbye and Love!!

I am officially leaving for the MTC today.  I will no longer be able to update my blog or Facebook, but I have left my parents in charge of them so everyone can stay updated.

I would love people to write me every once in a while, send me cookies, or even come visit me... just kidding...  But seriously you guys should write me some letters.  If I get one from you I will even try to write one back to you personally.  It will be Great!!!

I love you all!!! I am so excited to be serving a mission and acting as a representative of my Lord and Savoir, Jesus Christ.  I am ready to dedicate the next 18 months of my life to him fully and bring others unto the truth of the restored church- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Thanks for everything everyone has done for me. See you all Summer of 2013!!!

Farewell

I just want to thank everyone that came on Sunday to my Farewell. Despite the few tears I shed during my talk, it was a really good day.  I was especially glad to have all the support of love of my friends and family that were here to support me.  I love all of you guys. Even though I may not have you guys constantly around anymore, I know that going on a mission is the right thing to be doing with my life at this time.  Thanks also to anyone who brought treats and food to the Farewell. Thanks everybody for all the gifts as well. A special thanks to my parents for hosting the lunch at our house, which took a lot of cleaning and effort preparing the food and setting up everything else. I love you!  Thanks everyone for coming and supporting my decision to serve a mission!!!

I Love to See the Temple

One of the best days of my life so far was Thursday, October 6th, 2011, when I got to get my own endowments out!!  I went to the Salt Lake Temple, and much of my family was also able to attend to support me.  I am so thankful to those who were able to come and support me in such a great experience.  The love and the joy that we shared was the best!

I wrote in my journal that night: "WOW! The Temple is Amazing! I can't even describe in words how wonderful and happy I feel right now - I feel more amazing and joyful than I have ever felt before."

Going to the temple for the first time was such a great and sacred experience.  I am grateful that I live close to so many temples and have been able to go so many times since October.  The temple is such a spiritual place that can uplift your soul even on the worst possible days - it is one thing that can keep a person happy even when times are tough.  Anyone who has the opportunity to go to the temple and hasn't attended in some time needs to go asap!  I can't describe how great a blessing the temple has been in my life, especially since I got my endowments out and have been going more often. I Love the Temple So Much!!

Opening the Mission Call!!

On Wednesday, September 7, 2011, I opened my mission call.  I had waited so many years for the chance to go on a mission that the experience was almost surreal. I really had wanted a foreign mission, but I had a feeling I would end up in the United States – at least I hoped I would get to speak a new language.  Instead I read…

“Dear Sister Peck…  You are assigned to labor in the Texas Dallas Mission… You should report to the Provo Missionary Training Center on Wednesday, January 25, 2012.  You will prepare to preach the gospel in the English Language.”

Even though Dallas, Texas may not be the mission I was hoping for, I am still super excited to be going on a mission and be serving the Lord in such a calling.

My Dad looks a tad bit surprised while holding the phone for his parents to hear the good news and listen in on the excitement.
